A devoted Long Island father and youth hockey coach is fighting for his life after a violent street assault in Manhattan — as massive support from friends, neighbors and strangers alike continues to grow.
Sean Llewellyn, 47, of Point Lookout was brutally attacked late Sunday, Nov. 30, after attending a concert at the Beacon Theatre with his family.
The incident unfolded outside the Upper West Side venue following Llewellyn’s dispute with a street vendor over change from a $20 bill.
Llewellyn, after chasing the vendor, was allegedly punched to the ground and beaten by several individuals, suffering severe injuries, police said, according to a New York Post report.

Authorities said the sports dad sustained a traumatic brain injury and a fractured eye socket, injuries that have left Llewellyn, who has three young sons, hospitalized and facing a long and uncertain recovery. No arrests have been announced.
Giant wave of support on GoFundMe

A week ago, Llewellyn’s loved ones launched a fundraiser on GoFundMe to help offset mounting medical bills and the sudden loss of income.
The “Showing Up for Sean” campaign describes Llewellyn as the family’s primary provider and a deeply involved sports father who has spent years coaching, volunteering and supporting others across the community.
The response has been swift and staggering.
More than 1,300 donors have contributed over $200,000.
Sean and his wife Shannon are devoted and dedicated members of their community. They consistently take time away from their own family to support fundraising for others in need, chair church events, and volunteer in countless ways. Sean coaches youth hockey, inspiring kids both on and off the ice, while Shannon is a dedicated troop leader, guiding and mentoring young people. Their generosity and commitment have touched so many lives, and now, in their time of need, the community has an opportunity to give back.
“Sean is a dedicated family man, a proud sports dad, and the ‘fun coach’ everyone loves,” the GoFundMe page states.
