At a surprise ceremony held on Wednesday at the Suffolk County H. Lee Dennison building in Hauppauge, Copiague High School senior Liza Shehba was among six students from Long Island to be awarded full scholarships from the U.S. Army.
Shehbaz’s full scholarship is worth more than $220,000. She will use the scholarship to continue her education at Long Island University this fall.
The Minuteman Reserve Officer’s Training Corps granted her the scholarship, which provides guaranteed Reserves Forces Duty scholarships to cover full tuition and fees. The six Long Island recipients received $1.5 million in total scholarships.
Shehbaz was accompanied at the announcement by her family members, as well as Copiague High School Principal Joseph Agosta and Copiague School District Superintendent Kathleen Bannon.
