Tranquility Within, the holistic healing center that Dawn Schultzer opened in 2018 in downtown Patchogue, is closing its doors.
Her husband Dave announced the closure in a heartfelt social media post this week, citing the sale of the building at 64 West Main St.
“What is coming in, I have no idea. It’s a sad but inevitable event for our family,” he wrote. “Dawn’s mom, Judy, and I have come to terms with it, but it’s still sad.”
Dawn Schultzer — a woman who dedicated her life toward helping people find peace and healing — died in October 2020 after a battle with breast cancer. She was 47. Despite her illness, she remained committed to her dream of creating a sanctuary for others.
Tranquility Within offered reiki, sound healing, yoga and guided meditation, along with a popular gift shop featuring crystals and essential oils.
In his announcement, Dave Schultzer reflected on the impact his wife and Tranquility Within had on the community.
“I know Dawn achieved what she wanted there. I know this because of the words that you say and the emotions that you say them with,” he wrote, speaking to clients and customers. “It’s nice to be able to tell our children what people say, and the impact that their mom had.”
The Schultzes had three children together.
After Dawn Schultzer’s passing, her family and the Tranquility Within staff, including store manager Bunny Kouba, kept the business running, honoring her vision. Now, with the recent sale of the property, the chapter is coming to a close.
For those who wish to say their goodbyes, Dave Schultzer has placed a small tribute inside the front door of Tranquility Within. It’s visible from the sidewalk.
Dawn Schultzer’s dream for Tranquility Within was a product of her own transformative experiences with guided meditation.
“It’s my belief that everybody has in them a spark,” she once said. “I want to build a place that can feed that flame, that spark, and help people grow.”
David Schultz noted that while the doors of Tranquility Within are closing, Dawn Schultz’s impact remains.
“Your legacy isn’t the money you leave behind, or the stuff,” he said, back in 2020, following Dawn Schultz’s passing. “It’s what people talk about after you’re gone. It’s the impact that you leave on people that keeps your life and memory intact.”
