A Nassau County correction officer remembered by colleagues for his “infectious laugh” and unwavering work ethic has died at the age of 35.
Dylan James Hussey, of East Meadow, died on Saturday, May 23. Hussey had served as a Nassau County correction officer since 2015.
Tributes for Hussey poured in over the weekend on social media and on his obituary page at O’Shea Funeral Home in East Meadow.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman posted a heartfelt message on Facebook, noting Hussey’s dedication to his family and his job.
“Dylan served with dedication, professionalism, and honor, and his passing is a heartbreaking loss for entire community,” Blakeman wrote. “My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, fellow officers, and all those whose lives he touched.
“During this difficult time, we stand together in support of one another as we remember and honor Dylan’s service, sacrifice, and legacy,” he added.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the Suffolk County SDheriff Errol Toulon Jr. sent “heartfelt prayers and deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues” of Hussey.
The Nassau County Police Benevolant Association (PBA) also offered condolences.

Hussey was known for his dedication both on and off the job. In addition to his work in corrections, he also worked sprinkler jobs alongside his uncle, Jimmy.
“Dylan gave his all and never backed down from hard work,” his obituary states.
Family and friends remembered him for his love of snowboarding, surfing, volleyball, the beach and spending time with family and friends. He was described as having a “kind heart, funny personality, and unwavering loyalty.”
“I worked alongside Dylan at the Sheriff’s Department for his whole career, he had an infectious laugh & was always smiling regardless of the day we might of had,” colleague Shemika Egalité wrote. “He made sure I was good, & I made sure he was as well.”
Egalité recalled sharing meals during overtime shifts and reflected on their final week working together.
“Dylan you will forever be in our hearts & we have countless funny memories to hold on to,” she wrote. “You’ve ran your race my brother … now sleep in eternal peace.”
Hussey is survived by his parents, Kevin and Patricia; his brother, Sean; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Visitation services are scheduled for Saturday, May 30, from 2-4 p.m. and again from 7-9 p.m. at Charles J. O’Shea Funeral Home, located at 2515 N. Jerusalem Road in East Meadow.
A religious service will be held there at 8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral during visitation services.
