Food. Fun for kids. Sidewalk sales. Educational booths with locally based organizations that range from the Patchogue Arts Council to Fire Island National Seashore.
It all happens tonight in Patchogue Village.
The first-ever Family Fest and Community Night is being organized by the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce’s business promotions committee and runs from 5-9 p.m.
The streets will not be closed.
And the forecast calls for clear skies all evening.
On East Main Street, the big draw for kids will be in the Roe Walkway, which is located between Stanley’s Furniture and Toast Coffeehouse.
At 160 West Main Street, the Carnegie Library’s grounds will also be playing host to activities for kids, as well as live musical performances courtesy of Patchogue-Medford Library.
“There will be a lot of games, bounce houses and activities for kids in the Roe Walkway,” said the chamber’s executive director, David Kennedy. “There will be a few vendors as well.”
“And dotted throughout Main Street, families will be able to learn about some of the great community groups we have here,” he continued. “And they can do a little shopping on the sidewalk.
The Family Fest and Community Night was put together in part to draw more attention to the summer sidewalk sales and the downtown’s retail sector as a whole, said business promotions committee member and Roast Coffee & Tea Trading Co. general manager Tiffany Rivera.
Rivera said she figured “a community group expo would help showcase all the groups that make Patchogue what it is.”
“And if it coincides with sidewalk sales, it gets people to shop at the same time with their families,” she added.
Lori Belmonte of The Colony Shop organized the kids area in the Roe Walkway.
Rivera put gathered members from nearly two dozen community groups to set up tables along Main Street.
“This gives them a main street presence they don’t normally have,” Rivera said. “Also, it give the residents another family-friendly event to attend.”
