Barn Door 49 is swinging open its doors in Bay Shore for the first time during Saturday’s St. Patrick’s Parade.
But don’t dare think about leaving those doors open upon arrival; even if you were raised in a barn. Because there’s no nicer barn than this (more pics below).
The old Milk & Sugar has been completely transformed by its owners, Gina and Lenny Jaworowski, into the ideal setting for a farm-to-table restaurant.
The Bay Shore couple closed Milk & Sugar on Sept. 7 after 18 years at 49 West Main Street.
“We want to be the hot spot again,” Gina Jaworowski told GreaterBayShore in August. “And it’s like anything, whether in the restaurant business or in your life, you have to change and start fresh and reinvent and think of new approaches.”
The space is now outfitted with reclaimed barn wood, Edison lighting, chalkboard walls and a fireplace strategically placed in the middle of the back dining room.
“This is fireside seating,” said Gina.
Then there’s the extended pinewood archway that ushers diners from the front bar area, where there’s also room for dining, to the formal dining room in the back.

The Jaworowskis hosted friends and family Friday night, March 9, for a soft opening.
“It was all that I wanted,” Gina said of the night. “We were so proud and honored to be with our family and friends on such a new journey.”
Father Dave Atanasio from St. Patrick R.C. Church in Bay Shore also came to bless the dining room — for the next 18 years.
“We hope we can make that long if not many more; we’re so happy with what we built for local families and our family,” she said. “I hope to see everyone enjoy our farm-to-table. It’s something to experience and it was so worth every minute of our six-month renovation.”
Barn Door 49 will be open for lunch and dinner on Saturdays from noon to 10 p.m. The restaurant opens again at 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.. for Sunday Brunch (with Bloody Mary bar) followed by dinner. The menu will change often.
Lunch and dinner will be served Tuesday through Sunday. Visit the site for exact hours.
