A nearly nine-pound baby boy was the first infant of the New Year born at Stony Brook University Hospital early Monday.

Theo Everest Costa came into the world at 2:09 a.m., hospital officials announced. Theo’s parents are Alicia and Daryl Costa from Medford. He is their third child.

Weighing eight pounds, 12 ounces, Theo was delivered by Kathleen Sharrott, CNM, and Catherine Leonard, RN.

“This New Year surpasses all others because we’re stepping into it with you in our arms,” said the couple in a statement released by the hospital.
