Flying Pig Café in Miller Place closes amid uncertainty

|
The Flying Pig Café in Miller Place has closed indefinitely.

The Flying Pig Café, a breakfast and brunch destination in Miller Place for nearly a decade, has closed.

A sign on the door reads that “due to unforeseen circumstances, the Flying Pig Café will be closed until further notice.”

Located on the north side of Route 25A between Tyler and Harrison avenues, the restaurant was opened in early 2016 by Marianne Ferrandino and her husband, Jack Schwartz, who also owns the Country Cottage Diner on Main Street in Center Moriches. Ferrandino died on May 13 at the age of 63.

Known for its pig-themed décor — including a large winged pig statue outside the entrance and ceramic pigs and paintings throughout the dining room — the café served upscale American comfort food. The menu featured traditional favorites like eggs, omelets and pancakes, together with such playful dishes as the breakfast burger, granola-crusted French toast and crab Benedict.

Looking through the restaurant’s windows this week, the interior appears unchanged, with tables, decorations and the familiar flying pig artwork still in place.

Greater Long Island reached out to Schwartz for comment but has not yet heard back.
