Forecast forces time changes for Patchogue’s NYE bash and ‘ball drop’

|

The party was supposed to get rolling in Patchogue this New Year’s Eve at 7 p.m., but a rainy nighttime forecast has forced some timeline changes for the village’s annual Midnight on Main St. bash.

But, things are expected to be fully dry now.

Changes and details

The bash will now start at 6 p.m. at West Avenue and West Main Street, near the new Starbucks.

At that time, families will find bouncy houses, games, food trucks, face-painting, a DJ and costumed characters from ThinkBIG! Theatre Arts, along with other activities,

That’ll keep the kiddies entertained until the big moment, the New Year’s Eve countdown and glistening and glowing ball rise above the village when the clock strikes 8 p.m. (In Patchogue, the ball doesn’t drop, it rises.)

When the ball fully rises, the Fireworks by Grucci fireworks show begins, and will last for roughly three minutes.

“We just figured if we move it an hour earlier, it gives us a little more room to avoid the rain and keep people from getting wet,” said David Kennedy, executive director of the Patchogue Business Improvement District.

The super-popular Midnight on Main St. event is hosted annually by the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, with help from the BID and village.

The idea is to get families out for the New Year countdown before the little ones are in bed.
