More than 100 local residents came out May 18 for the 12th annual Great Brookhaven Clean Up, collecting more than 50 bags of garbage at eight locations around the community.
Volunteers gathered at Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library in the morning before heading out into designated locations, including the Mastic-Shirley train station, William Floyd High School, William Floyd Parkway and Mastic Road.
This event was co-sponsored by the Town of Brookhaven’s Department of Recycling and Sustainable Materials Management and Keep America Beautiful, Inc. and included 3,000 volunteers townwide. One group also was at Kalers Pond Park in Center Moriches.
