It’s been a year since the popular marketplace on wheels, Hitch LI, settled down in Babylon Village and went brick-and-mortar.
The community joined owners Joe DeBello and Justina DiMaggio last Friday for a ribbon-cutting celebration to mark the anniversary at 37 East Main St.
“[Hitch Handmade Market] has been such a great addition, your store is so much fun,” said Kelly Peckholdt, head of the Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce, at the celebration.
Suffolk County legislator Kevin McCaffrey awarded the small business with a proclamation for its one year in service.
“We’re happy to recognize you being in business here in Babylon Village, a great place to live, work and do business,” said McCaffrey.
The Village of Babylon’s Deputy Mayor Kevin Muldowney and Trustee Mary Adams also gave their congratulations to the store for their feat.
Hitch Handmade Market began with displaying products for 65 vendors, all of whom New York-based.
DeBello told GreaterBabylon that they continue to bring in new products frequently, and has recently added a rack for luxurious items such as designer handbags, wallets, and belts.
