Two Bellport Village trustees were thanked for their service and bid farewell and two others took their oaths of office Monday night at the Bellport Community Center.
Joseph Gagliano (407 votes) and Steve Mackin (381) were elected as trustees last week, each defeating S. David Smith (358) in the three-way race for the two seats.
Their terms officially start on July 4.
Outgoing Trustee Leslie O’Connor served two four-year terms and David McGrath served one.
They were honored with gifts at Monday evening’s Village Board meeting, their last.
O’Connor, who served as the village’s first female deputy mayor, received a standing ovation from some in attendance.
In brief remarks, she reflected on her time as a trustee, from helping facilitate getting power back to the village after Sandy, to witnessing the last of the Sandy damage being fixed at Osborn Park.
She encouraged the board to keep its attention on details and rules and regulations.
“I’ve tried to serve with integrity and honesty and openness to everyone who ever wanted to talk to me about anything, and I treasure the last four years,” she said. “You can always talk to me still.”
