Don’t be concerned; it’s only a drill.
That’s the message Town of Islip officials are looking to send before Sunday’s live emergency drill that will run from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m at the airport, just in case residents hear or witness any commotion at the airport.
“The drill is a training exercise to simulate an aircraft accident and coordinate the emergency response,” reads a town advisory issued Saturday. “The Airport’s Fire Rescue and Law Enforcement Department and other airport staff will participate in the drill, including 12 agencies from the local towns and county.”
Officials indicated the drill is required by the FAA as part of the airport’s operating certification. No air travel delays are expected. No public observation areas are available.
No other details about the drill were provided by the town.
