A gunman opened fire on a group of people outside a Mastic Beach home Monday night, wounding two before fleeing, police said Tuesday.

The 10 p.m. shooting happened in front of 96 Woodside Road, when an argument broke out with a group that had gathered there. Police said a man pulled out a handgun and fired several shots at two of the individuals involved in the argument, then fled the scene before officers arrived.

The victims are a 25-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman. Both were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk Police’s Seventh Squad at 631.852.8752 or Crime Stoppers at 800.220.TIPS.
