An interactive dining experience where the diners become the chefs has swept its way into Commack’s Mayfair Shopping Center.
JBBQ & Shabu Shabu, which started in Bay Shore in 2020 and expanded to Smithtown in 2022 opened last month at 200 Jericho Turnpike.
“I know a lot of people living on Long Island are always looking for barbecue Korean style, Japanese style barbecue, and they’re going all the way down to the city,” a JBBQ representative previously told Greater Long Island.
“We try to bring this stuff to Long Island, so people can share this kind of food.”
The Japanese-inspired concept provides for a communal dining experience for families and groups of friends.
Unlike with hibachi, where a chef cooks, the diners are the chefs at JBBQ & Shabu Shabu. Guests craving barbecue first choose from a list of beef, chicken, pork, seafood and veggie options. Then, they grill them right at their table, known as the “yakinuku” style of cooking.
“Shabu shabu” literally means “swish swish,” describing the chopstick technique employed by diners cooking from an array of meats and veggies at the table — in a hot pot of flavored broth. Perhaps the best part of all, is that it’s all you can eat. Click here for the menu.
