A Long Island native who had been living with his family in upstate Delaware County has been indicted on multiple felony charges, including murder, in connection with the stabbing death of his pregnant wife and injuries to his two young daughters, according to reports.
A county grand jury indicted Drew Garnier, 32, of Masonville, on charges of second-degree murder, two counts of second-degree attempted murder, criminal use of a firearm, and four counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies, the Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin reported.
The charges stem from a Sept. 4 incident where Garnier, originally from Lake Grove, allegedly stabbed and killed his wife, 29-year-old Samantha Garnier, who was five months pregnant. The couple’s two young daughters, Izzie, 6, and Adelina, 9, were also stabbed but are expected to make full recoveries, state police have said previously.
Police said that about 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 4, troopers responded to a home on Houck Road in Masonville for a reported domestic dispute. State troopers and Delaware County sheriff’s deputies found Samantha Garnier, a Centereach High School graduate, inside the residence with stab wounds.
The expectant mother was airlifted to UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, where she later died. The children were taken to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for treatment.
The tragedy has deeply affected the Long Island communities where the couple originally resided. Samantha, a Centereach High School graduate, was due to have a baby girl in February 2025 and would have turned 30 this month. Friends described her as “a beautiful, compassionate, and loving mother who always wanted the best for her babies.”
Long Islanders have flooded a GoFundMe campaign with support for the two young girls. The campaign has already raised $16,000 to help support the children’s recovery and future care.
The weapons charges against Drew Garnier allege he was in possession of an AK-47 assault weapon, a Tactical ST15 assault weapon, and two large capacity ammunition feeding devices, according to the Press & Sun Bulletin.
Following his indictment, Garnier was arraigned by Delaware County Judge John L. Hubbard and pleaded not guilty to all charges. He is due back in court Sept. 30.
