Long Island teen charged in brutal and ‘sadistic’ cat beating

|

A Brentwood teen who brutally beat a cat with a metal bar outside of Brentwood High School faces animal cruelty charges for the disturbing attack that he and his friends captured on video and shared on social media, authorities said.

Detectives from the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) called the nighttime beating of the black feline in September a “sadistic” and “heinous” act that caused traumatic injuries to the animal.

In the video supplied by the SPCA, an individual wields a metal bar and uses it to strike the cat on the head. The cat is then heard yelping.

Roy Gross, chief of Suffolk’s SPCA, said the individual charged in the attack is a former Brentwood High School student who was 17 at the time of the beating.

A significant break in the case came when another former Brentwood student came forward to authorities after recognizing the location of the incident, as well as the person beating the cat.
