An Aquebogue woman this week claimed a $1 million second-place prize in the New York Powerball drawing held on March 26.
Maria Messina matched the first five numbers — 05, 20, 29, 39 and 53 — missing only the Powerball number, which was 06. She opted for a one-time lump sum payment and received $651,000 after required withholdings.
The winning ticket was purchased at Kings Hampton Bays C-Store, a gas station located at 239 West Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays, across the street from the former Boardy Barn.
In Powerball, players choose five numbers 1 to 69 and one number 1 to 26 to as their Powerball. To win the Powerball jackpot, all six numbers drawn must match the six numbers on your ticket (five numbers plus the Powerball).
Powerball has drawings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:59 PM.
