Granted, these aren’t Aaron Judge or Pete Alonso numbers — but April was a big month for Long Island’s lottery hitters.
While the Yankees and Mets’ home run kings were going deep at the stadium, local lottery players were hitting it out of the park too — with four, separate million-dollar wins across Long Island.
April saw Long Island double its total for the year, with four individual players claiming top prizes, including one who purchased their ticket in West Babylon but calls Queens home.
Janiah Williams of Central Islip and Ralph DeRosa of Flushing, Queens, each claimed $1 million top prizes on the New York Lottery’s $1,000,000 Holiday Cash scratch-off game on April 1. Williams purchased her winning ticket at a 7-Eleven on Lowell Avenue in Islip Terrace, while DeRosa bought his at a 7-Eleven on Route 109 in West Babylon.
Both winners opted for a one-time lump sum payment — Williams receiving $455,700 and DeRosa taking home $428,568, each after required withholdings.
Ten days later, on April 11, Michael Kendrigan of Northport claimed a $1 million prize on the VIP Millions scratch-off game. He bought his winning ticket at Hari Mahat on Laurel Road in East Northport and collected a lump sum of $651,000.
Then on April 15, Ronkonkoma’s Theresa Imbriale came in for her $1 million prize on the Platinum Power scratch-off game. Her ticket was bought at Arjo Enterprise on Ronkonkoma Avenue; she got a lump sum payment of $416,640.
April’s million-dollar lottery wins on Long Island doubled the year’s total. While there were no such claims in March, there were three in February and one in January.
