Luca is set to return to Stony Brook.
The highly popular modern Italian restaurant, which opened at the Stony Brook Village Center in 2022, was founded by restaurateur David Tunney. In January, it suffered damage from an early morning fire. At the time, the owners described the damage as minimal.
A sign posted on the front door at 93 Main St. read: “We apologize for the inconvenience, we are temporarily closed due to a small fire. Thankfully, the damage was minimal, and we will be back up and running very soon.”
During the closure, ownership took the opportunity to renovate, referring to the updates as a “refreshed space” on social media.
Now, the moment many Long Islanders have been waiting for has arrived.
On Tuesday, the restaurant announced via Instagram that it will reopen for dinner on Thursday, March 13, at 5 p.m. Lunch service will begin Wednesday, March 19, at noon.
“Thank you once again to our community for your incredible support during our closure. We are thrilled to be opening our doors again!” the post reads.
Since its debut, Luca has become one of the region’s top dining destinations, even earning a spot on Newsday food critic Erica Marcus’ list of the “Best Italian Restaurants of 2025.”
“Luca is all refined cool, with surfaces of white and gray warmed up by the rich wood of the furniture and a barrier wall, between the bar and dining room, made from birch tree trunks,” Marcus wrote. “But while executive chef Luke DeSanctis’s elegant, modern menu features many tweezer-precise platings, there’s a soulfulness to his food whose bold flavors draw inspiration from regional Italian cuisine.”
