The arrival of F&M Goods is celebrated in Babylon Village

|

People like that there’s something new and different in Babylon.

But many of those same people like old stuff, found Leon “Lonny” Drexler, the owner of  the general store-style F&M Goods, which opened last month in the village.

“Everybody kind of comes in because they see the gas pump and the [soda] cooler in the window, but then some get a little disappointed when they learn only new stuff is for sale,” said Drexler.

The original idea was to use antiques from Drexler’s collection to set the throw-back tone for the shop, which offers home decor, hostess gifts, retro toys, candy, soda and snacks, and more.

But Drexler and his wife, Traci, quickly made adjustments.

“You spoke….and we listened,” F&M posted to Instagram with a photo of Drexler and a packed pickup. “We filled the truck today and we can’t wait for you to come in and see are super fun farmhouse finds.”

Just in time for Friday’s grand opening and ribbon-cutting at F&M.

There, the Drexlers were joined by friends and relatives, as well as chamber leaders and village officials.

“There are so many antique stores upstate, and this is a replica of a lot of those stores,” said Mayor Ralph Scordino.  “And it’s such a pleasure to have something like this right in Babylon Village.”

“We’re very excited when every business opens here, especially so for retail,” said chamber president Jacqueline Didonato, also the owner of Pandemonium Boutique on Deer Park Avenue.  “Retail brings in families and foot traffic, everything we’re about.

“The mayor and the rest of us are thrilled to have you here.”
