It’s not Patchogue Village, but it’s close.
After losing Old Olive Tree in Patchogue roughly three years ago, a Greek restaurant has opened in neighboring Blue Point.
Pete Krisilas, who emigrated from Spata, Greece, as a child, opened up Gyro Island on 55 Montauk Highway in Blue Point last week.
And he recruited his mother, Maria, to bring authentic Greek dishes to the area.
Like his pork gyros.
“It’s about giving people real Greek food because nobody really has pork gyros, everyone has the American-style gyros,” explained Krisilas.
By American-style, he is referring to places making gyros with a mixture of lamb and beef.
“Lamb and beef mixed together looks like meatloaf,” he said.
Some of the other authentic dishes include Gyro Island’s souvlaki and Greek salads. There are even traditional desserts like galaktobouriko, which is a pastry made of phyllo dough.
Krisilas, who lives in Medford, is excited to finally be open for business after eyeing the store’s location for a year.
“Everything has been pretty good, good neighborhood, the people are nice,” he said.

Gyro Island will be open the following hours:
Sunday-Thursday 11:45 a.m.- 9 p.m.
Friday and Saturday 11:45 a.m.- 10 p.m.
