Less than a year after its big grand re-opening, Nicky’s on the Bay is adding a rooftop drinking and snacking experience to its prominent spot at the foot of the Bay Shore Marina.
“It’s like a separate restaurant up there,” said owner Nick Parini of Bay Shore, also the owner of Nicky’s Clam Bar on Maple Avenue. “We installed a walk-up bar, small kitchen and two restrooms.”
“The building was just being used for storage,” he said.
The Rootop Menu features, among other items, a lobster roll, hot dog, tuna tacos, raw clams and oysters and peel & eat shrimp.
Nicky’s also installed a floating dock that allows for about 11 more boats to pull up.
“This is a destination by boat but dock space was limited,” he said. “We could probably dock about 25 to 28 boats now.”
Nicky’s on the Bay is entering its 12th season, but just its second after the original 900-foot snack bar was knocked to the ground in September 2014 and replaced with the much larger building.
The new building —which features four dining areas — can seat about 400 people, not including the roof, which was originally only approved by the town for observation deck and storage space purposes.
Parini said he’s also moved the music upstairs, and away from the dining rooms and lower deck.
“We’ve got live music every night up here now,” he said.
ABOUT THE METERS
Paid meters went into effect in the Bay Shore Marina on Monday.
Nicky’s no longer validates, but the good news is parking will cost a few dollars or quarters, as opposed to the $5 and $10 some residents and all non-residents had been paying to enter the lot.
Parking is 50 cents an hour during the week from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and $1 on weekends through Labor Day, Parini said.
There’s also a marked Value Lot that costs 25 cents an hour to park for longer periods.
