North Babylon Lions Club marks 100 years with new bench, pathway

|

The beautification of North Babylon continues.

In celebration of the Lions Club of North Babylon’s 100th year anniversary, the group recently unveiled a new bench at Phelps Lane Park.

The bench, which is in the shape of a lion, is surrounded by a brick pathway engraved with commemorations of the organization and its traditions.

At the ceremony last month, the Lions Club’s District Governor for Suffolk County, Richard Irizarry, was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for his restless hours of work.

“The Lions Club of North Babylon has made great contributions to its community since its inception. Their coordination on beautification efforts is key to keeping North Babylon a beautiful place to be,” said Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer.  “I would like to commend Richard Irizarry for his great leadership as the Lions Club’s District Governor for Suffolk County.”

Some of Irizarry’s projects include the holiday decorations on Deer Park Avenue, the creation of Bay Scout weekend Turk-A-Ree at Belmont Lake Park and hosting the annual May Family Street Fair, among others.
