Panera Bread quietly closes in Lake Ronkonkoma after a decade

|

The Panera Bread location on Portion Road in Lake Ronkonkoma is toast.

Google it, you’ll know see the infamous red bar across the location’s listing, which reads “Permanently closed.”

Ditto for the location’s Facebook page.

According to Long Island Business News archives, the Panera at 136 Portion Road was owned by New Jersey-based Doherty Enterprises, Inc., and opened in October 2015.

Doherty operates dozens of Panera and Applebee’s restaurants across Nassau and Suffolk counties.

The nearly 30 other Panera locations on the Island appear unaffected. The newest Panera opened in December in the sprawling Islandia shopping center that’s being revamped.

The Lake Ronkonkoma closure comes amid news of nationwide closures in what Cleveland.com described Monday as a massive overhaul as the parent company backpedals on fresh-dough operations.

Greater Long Island has reached out to representatives at Doherty Enterprises for information. We will update the story.
