“There is still so much we had left to do, but we’ll do it when we meet again.”

Family, friends and community members are doing what they can to come to the aid of a young Patchogue mother and her small children, following the tragic death of the woman’s husband.

John Hannon, 25, was killed Wednesday, July 6, about 6:15 a.m. when his Honda motorcycle struck a Toyota Tacoma on Veterans Memorial Highway in Ronkonkoma. Hannon was riding west and the driver of the Tacoma was turning left onto Artic Avenue.

A memorial fund was started on behalf of Hannon’s widow Elizabeth and their two children, including a son who just this week turned 7 months old. A GoFundMe page for the family notes that Hannon had been the sole provider for the family so that his wife could be a stay-at-home mother.

“Everyone who knew John Hannon knew he was one of the kindest and most gentle people you will ever meet. Everyone he came in contact with loved him,” reads the message on the GoFundMe page, posted by Elizabeth Hannon’s sister. “With John no longer able to support them, my sister will need all the help from friends, family, and the community that everyone is able to provide.”

The funds raised will go toward offsetting funeral costs, as well as directly support Elizabeth Hannon and their children. The couple had started dating when they were students at Patchogue-Medford High School.

Elizabeth Hannon, in a heartbreaking Facebook post, laid out just how in love she was, and still is, with John Hannon, who would have turned 26 on Tuesday, July 12.

“John, my love, my high school sweetheart, my world, and most importantly the father of my babies. I have no words for what I am writing, this doesn’t feel real,” she wrote. “I’m sure I’ll constantly be thinking of things to say about you. You made me the happiest gal in the whole world.

“You are my everything and will always be. I know you are still with me and the kids…,” she continued. “I love you unconditionally. There is still so much we had left to do, but we’ll do it when we meet again.”

Services for John Hannon take place at McManus-Lorey Funeral Home, located at 2084 Horseblock Road in Medford, on Wednesday, July 13, from 7-9 p.m., and on Thursday, July 14, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
