Two newcomers to the Mastic Beach restaurant scene, Pizza Box and La Reina del Norte Taqueria, have closed their doors in recent weeks.
Calls and messages to both locations have not been returned, but nearby businesses and customers have recognized their absence.
A “For Rent” sign is on the door of La Reina del Norte, located at 412 Neighborhood Road, and Pizza Box, at 520 Mastic Road, has been unoccupied for several weeks. The latter restaurant succeeded Valentina Brick Oven Pizza. Both restaurants opened within the past year.
“Businesses come and go every six months around here,” said one Neighborhood Road business owner who asked not to be named to avoid upsetting landlords. The source lamented the number of similar restaurants and clothing stores that pop up due to current zoning restrictions.
“They need sewers down here. Otherwise, things are going to stay like this.”
