Rumors of a bomb threat outside Nassau Coliseum, the host site of a Donald Trump campaign rally on Wednesday, have been proven false.
Videos posted online around 11 a.m., including one on X, show Nassau County Police units surrounding a vehicle just outside the coliseum, which fueled public suspicion.
Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder confirmed in a statement that there was no real bomb threat. However, someone had been detained and questioned for training a bomb detection dog near the site.
“The individual with the bomb dog falsely reported explosives being found and that individual is currently being detained by police,” said Ryder.
The Coliseum, which is set to open its doors to the public at 3 p.m., saw crowds beginning to form as early as Tuesday night, according to News 12. Trump is expected to speak at 7 p.m.
Newsday reported that over 60,000 people requested tickets for the event, though the Coliseum has a capacity of only 16,000.
Here was the scene as of 11 a.m. Video and photos were taken by Andrew Theodoarkis of Greater Long Island.
