The Bracket

Week 1 recap
Suffolk I

Winner: Dan at Mary Carroll’s in Babylon
Dan narrowly defeated Nochelle of MoMo’s Too in Bayport by just 376 votes with 51.86 percent of the total tally. This was a weeklong, back-and-forth horse race that stayed close until the end.

Winner: John at Coastal Kitchen in Bay Shore
John edged out Maresa of That Meetball Place in Patchogue by 374 votes, good for 52.79 percent of the total votes. This was also a tight one that went back and forth until Friday, when John started to widen his lead more. And he held on, even with a late surge for Meresa.
Round 2: Dan vs. John
Suffolk II

Winner: Joe at Pace’s in Hauppauge
Joe and Gavin from Chops Steakhouse in Patchogue played leapfrog until about Thursday, when Joe took a commanding lead that proved too much for Gavin, our youngest competitor at 24, to overcome. Still, Gavin got a whopping 5,105 votes, which would have defeated most others in the bracket. This contest saw exactly 12,500 total votes cast.

Winner: Davide at Molto Vino in Babylon
Davide had the most nominations in January among any other bartender to enter the bracket, so we weren’t surprised he opened with a wide margin over Tom at The Linwoood in Bay Shore and held on throughout, finishing with 2,975 votes, or 58.41 percent of the total tally.
Round 2: Joe vs. Davide
Nassau

Winner: Jerry at The Harrison in Floral Park
At 61, Jerry is the eldest of the battling bartenders, and those extra decades sliding cocktails across bars in Nassau County proved too much for the talented Pietro of Michaelangelo’s in Massapequa Park. Jerry began to widen a lead around Wednesday and held onto it, winning with 57.31 percent.

Winner: Dan at The Sandbar in Cold Spring Harbor
This was an absolute nail-biter to the very end, but Dan ended up beating Jim at The Villager in Farmingdale by 350 votes and 50.80 percent of the tally. These two competitors and their teams were relentless, with each engineering a 7-day social media onslaught throughout. Neither ever lost steam.
Round 2: Jerry vs. Dan
Eastern L.I.

Winner: Kyle at Buckley’s Irish Pub in Center Moriches
This was the closest contest in the bracket and a tight race that went back-and-forth several times a day. In the end, Kyle proved victorious with 2,819 total votes, just 12 more than Ariana at Craft’D in Riverhead. This game of musical chairs is over; Kyle takes his seat.

Winner: Kristi at The Point in Montauk
Eastern Long Island gave us another tight race here. Kristi led Evan from Brix & Rye in Greenport for a majority of the time this past week, but it was always by a narrow margin. Evan would jump ahead here and there, but to no avail. Kristi bested Evan by 130 votes in the end with 51.76 percent of the vote.
