Saturday’s ‘Honor Our Hometown Heroes’ concert will feature free music, fireworks

For 38 years, the Islip Arts Council has commemorated those who serve (or have served) in the U.S. military — and as first responders — by hosting an annual “Honor Our Hometown Heroes” show.

This year’s installment is on Saturday, July 15, and the Arts Council has teamed up with the Long Island Concert Orchestra.

The concert is at Heckscher State Park in East Islip.

“We are proud to present the Long Island Concert Orchestra at our Annual Concert in the Park with Maestro David Wiley conducting,” said Lynda Moran, executive director of the Arts Council.

The free concert is open to the public and will begin at 8 p.m. and will feature a fireworks show from Fireworks by Grucci.

“This program will be another outstanding orchestral showcase of beautiful music — under the stars,” says Moran.

The “Honor Our Hometown Heroes” isn’t the only concert the Art Council runs over the summer. The non-profit organization hosts free summer concerts nearly every weekend in July and August at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum in Great River and Bay Shore Band Shell on Main Street in Bay Shore.

The shows held at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum cost $8 for the New York State Parking Fee.

The Bay Shore Band Shell shows are referred to as the, “Free Brown Bag Lunch Concert Series,” as the Arts Council recommends to bring food and a lawn chair to enjoy the music.

The full schedule for the summer series is found online.
