Saturday, Jan. 7 (12 p.m.): The Village of Patchogue has declared a State of Emergency due to what’s expected to be an all-day snow storm. All cars must be removed from village roadways.
Saturday, Jan. 7 (10 a.m.): The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for all of Suffolk and up to 12 inches is possible for the Greater Patchogue area.
Snow should be developing late morning and falling heavy at times throughout the afternoon, according to the NWS.
It will then taper off around midnight, the storm warning reads.
The daytime accumulation is expected to total 5 to 9 inches, with an additional 1 to 3 inches coming after nightfall. FULL LOCAL FORECAST
Temperatures will remain in the low 20s with wind gusts of up to 30 mph.
A winter storm warning is issued for heavy snow is issued only when severe weather conditions are expected or occurring. People are warned to only travel in the event of an emergency.
And if so, to keep an extra flashlight, food and water in the vehicle.
