Summer drive-in concert series is coming to the Deer Park Tanger Outlets

|

First, it was the drive-in movie, then the drive-in diner — now, the Town of Babylon is bringing residents a free drive-in concert experience at the Tanger Outlets in Deer Park.

The 2020 Drive-In Summer Concert Series kicks off on July 22 at 8 p.m. The event is for Babylon Town residents only — entry is permitted with a Town of Babylon beach sticker or valid Town of Babylon driver’s license.

The Lords of 52nd Street — a Billy Joel cover band, featuring original band members who toured with the “Piano Man” himself — will kick off the concert series.

The group will be followed by Rock This Town Orchestra on July 29, Shadows of the 60’s on Aug. 5, and Desert Highway Eagles Tribute on Aug. 12.

The event can fit approximately 250 to 300 cars, with both stage amplification and an FM radio component. The parking lot opens at 6 p.m. All shows will begin at 8 p.m.

There will be screens in the front and halfway down the parking lot.

Each car will be socially distanced and people are allowed to sit just outside their vehicles in a lawn chair.

No concessions will be sold and portable restrooms are available. The restrooms will be regularly cleaned and sanitized.

Rich Schaffer, Babylon Town supervisor, said with the increased popularity of the drive-in concept lately, town officials saw it as an option to replace the 13 to 14 concerts Babylon holds at Tanner Park each summer.

“It gives people an opportunity to get out, clear their head, and enjoy some great music,” Schaffer said.

“The drive-in concept helps keep everyone apart, but gives families the opportunity to be together.”
