Phillip Culver has been appointed executive director for inclusion and chief diversity officer at Farmingdale State College.

He begins the role on Monday, March 2.

Reporting to college president Dr. Robert Prezant, Culver will provide “strategic leadership to advance college-wide diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, and oversee institutional compliance with federal and state civil rights laws, including Titles VI, VII and IX, in conjunction with college administration,” according to an announcement.

Culver joins Farmingdale from Nassau County Community College in Garden City, where he served as senior director of civil rights and belonging. In that role, he provided systemwide leadership and oversight for civil rights, ethics, accessibility, compliance, and minority- and women-owned business programs.

He has also held senior human resources and compliance roles at Delta Air Lines Inc., TIAA and Dow Chemical Company, the announcement states.

“Farmingdale State College has a strong commitment to inclusive excellence, demonstrated in the daily experiences within its campus community,” Culver said in a statement. “I am honored and excited to serve in this role, and look forward to collaborating with President Prezant to build an even more connected campus environment where diversity is celebrated, equity is practiced, and inclusion is lived every day.”

“Phillip’s in-depth experience in cultivating environments that champion equity, foster belonging, and advance institutional excellence perfectly complements our longstanding commitment to accessible education and inclusive excellence,” Prezant said. “His leadership will help us further build a culture where every member of our campus community feels valued, supported and empowered to thrive.”

Culver earned an Executive MBA from Hofstra University and a Bachelor of Business Administration in management and marketing from Pace University. He is currently completing a Ph.D. in organization and management at Liberty University.
