Supreme Philly Cheesesteaks to be replaced by taco eatery in Babylon

Babylon Village has lost its go-to Philadelphia-style cheesesteak joint.

Supreme Philly Cheesesteaks, founded by Plainview’s Jerry Paiaros in 2016, closed temporarily from May 19 through June 16 due to an emergency medical situation. Instead of reopening, the property, located at 20 Railroad Avenue, was listed up for lease.

According to a building permit submitted to the Village of Babylon, a new restaurant called Taco Fresco is slated to fill the space. Check back later with greaterlongisland.com for more information on that.

How it started

Paiaros built a cult following since his launch, with many Long Islanders driving miles to grab one of his juicy sandwiches.

“[Other restaurants] use Steak-umm or roast beef,” Paiaros previously told Greater Long Island. “We use ribeye steak and real wiz, plus we have more stuff — because we are New Yorkers.”

Paiaros grew up with family in Philadelphia, and it was always a dream to open his own Philly cheesesteak shop on Long Island.

His dream became a reality in the spring of 2016 when he opened in Babylon in a location that previously housed another cheesesteak business, FAT’s.

With over 20 years of cooking experience, Paiaros insisted his cheesesteaks are better than the widely popular Geno’s Steaks and Pat’s King of Steaks of Philadelphia. “They have the quantity, but not the quality,” he said in an interview with GLI in 2017. “Here, everything is made to order.”

And the locals agreed.

“I hope this place opens back up, it’s the most extraordinary cheesesteak I’ve ever had in my life I can’t believe the quality, expertise, and love that went into my meal! Every time I eat there it does not disappoint,” wrote Malysia Mercier in a Google review.
