The Latest: TGI Fridays closes 3 LI locations as part of wider company restructuring

TGI Fridays is no more in Bay Shore.

The casual American chain has permanently closed at the South Shore Mall, Greater Long Island has learned.

A letter on the front door at 1725 Sunrise Highway confirmed the closure. It reads, “We regret to inform you that Fridays has made the difficult decision to close our doors at Bay Shore, effective Jan. 2.”

The restaurant’s operator gave thanks to the local community for the years of patronage, writing: “We are extremely grateful to our loyal guests and our team members at our Bay Shore restaurant.”

According to a Fresno, Calif., TV news station, the NYC-based company closed 35 restaurants nationwide on Tuesday. Among the closures were in Massachusetts, California, Texas, and more.

TGI Fridays locations in Hauppauge and Massapequa also closed, GLI learned.

As of now, the remaining TGI Fridays outposts are in Riverhead, Farmingville, Central Islip, Westbury, Levittown, Rockville Centre and Valley Stream.

At least one former TGI Fridays has done very well as a second restaurant after a remodeling. The old Fridays near the Walt Whitman Mall in Huntington Station was transformed into The Bryant, which is owned and operated by Poll Restaurants.
