Traffic congestion expected near Donald Trump’s rally on Long Island

The Nassau County Police have issued a traffic advisory ahead of Donald Trump’s rally at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum this Wednesday.

In the advisory, released this morning, Nassau PD warned motorists and residents to expect “heavier than usual traffic” starting at 3 p.m. around the Coliseum. The affected areas include Hempstead Turnpike, Charles Lindbergh Boulevard, Earle Ovington Boulevard, and Glen Curtiss Boulevard.

The gates to the Coliseum will open at that time, with Trump expected to deliver his remarks at 7 p.m., according to the Trump campaign website. The campaign rally is open to the general public, who can acquire tickets online.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman advises those not attending the rally to avoid the area.

“If you are not attending the rally, Uniondale, Hempstead, East Meadow – there will be traffic congestion because of the rally,” Blakeman said. “We are advising you if you don’t have business in that area to stay away.”

Nassau County is working closely with state police, FBI and Secret Service to secure both the inside and outside of the facility.

“This will be the safest place in the country on that day, Wednesday,” said Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder, following an assassination attempt on Trump this past Monday in Florida.
