Trevor Bauer leaves Long Island Ducks for Mexico

|

The Trevor Bauer era on Long Island is over.

The former Cy Young Award winner is headed back to Mexico to rejoin his former team Diablos Rojos del México to help them try to win a third straight Mexican League championship.

Bauer, 35, first arrived on Long Island in April, hoping to showcase his skills and earn another opportunity with an MLB team.

During his two months with the Ducks, he certainly delivered.

Bauer had a 5-1 record with a 2.36 ERA while striking out 66 batters and walking just seven in 42 innings. He also produced two of the most memorable pitching performances in franchise history: a no-hitter against Lancaster on April 26 and a franchise-record 15-strikeout outing against Gastonia on May 12.

His dominance earned Bauer Atlantic League Pitcher of the Month honors for April and May and reinforced his status as one of the league’s biggest attractions.

“I want to thank the Long Island Ducks organization for giving me the opportunity to be part of the team,” Bauer said in a statement released by the club. “The support from the fans and the Long Island community has been truly special.”

Attendance surged whenever Bauer took the mound, including two sellouts.

“What stood out most was how many people I met who weren’t even baseball fans but came out to a game because of my content or because they were curious to see me pitch,” Bauer said. “I also met a lot of people who told me they had fallen out of love with baseball and had reconnected with the sport through my content and my time here with the Ducks.”

“Trevor exceeded every expectation during his time with the Ducks,” team president Michael Pfaff said. “From his dominance on the mound to his commitment to fans and support of our organization, he made a tremendous impact both on and off the field.”

Bauer last appeared in Major League Baseball in 2021 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was later suspended by MLB for 194 games following allegations of sexual abuse and battery by multiple women.

Bauer denied the allegations, and no criminal charges were filed. In 2024, one of the accusers was indicted by a grand jury on felony charges of fraudulent schemes and theft by extortion.
