The second annual “Trunk or Treat” event on Saturday at William Floyd High School will be a drive-thru experience and carry a “Toy Story” theme.
New York State Sen. Monica Martinez will host the event once again in the high school’s south parking lot.
From 3-6 p.m., residents can drive through the lot collecting sweet treats from community organizations with trunks decked out in Halloween fashion. It event was adapted due to COVID-19 health concerns.
Martinez’s spokeswoman Adina Beedenbender said the senator will be dressed as Jessie, the cowgirl voiced by actress Joan Cusack in the Pixar film series.
Separately, on Halloween, Martinez will host her sixth annual Brentwood “Trunk-or-Treat” event, with a superhero theme, at the East End Fire Dept. at 26 Fulton St.
Liga De Justicia Abogados, one of the organizations participating in the event, will provide entertainment. Firm member Randy Montano, or DJ Triple R as he is known to listeners of the firm’s programs on the La Fiesta radio station, will play music for families as they arrive.
The law firm will have more surprises for trick-or-treaters after they fill up on candy.
“When they get to the end we’ll have a pumpkin patch and paints to paint the pumpkins,” said William Ferro, the firm’s managing partner. “And we have sort of a game at the end where they spin this game wheel and win – potentially — different prizes, small candy, big candy. Just things to make it fun, safe, and a healthy experience for everybody.”
Trick-or-treaters will not exit their cars, but are required to wear masks as they will be rolling down their windows to ask for and collect candy.
For safety concerns, trick-or-treaters and participants handing out candy cannot just wear Halloween masks.
“Masks that come with the costume are not considered health precaution masks, Beedenbender said. “So we would ask that they wear proper COVID protective masks, some sort of proper safe covering that would cover their mouth and their nose.”
