The brand-new Village Walk Senior Living in Patchogue Village hosted a grand opening bash Wednesday on East Main Street.
And the place was jumping. The five-story building at 131 East Main Street was filled with people checking out the new facility and its many features.
The city-like structure, which reaches five stories at some points, features a bistro, pub, restaurant, cinema space, internet café, fitness facilities, an art studio and more.
There’s even an observation deck with views of Fire Island and the Great South Bay.
“[The Village Walk is the] first of its kind in Suffolk County,” explained Village Walk’s executive director, Christine DeLeo.
It’s also the county’s only assisted living center located in the heart of a downtown.
Village Walk has 128 apartments, a number that includes 46 units for those with Alzheimer’s and other dementia diseases.
“This is a very exciting day for us to have opened this magnificent facility,” said one of the property’s developers, Peter Florey.
Dignitaries from all levels of government came to celebrate.
Among them was Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine of Center Moriches.
“This is another great project for the Village of Patchogue,” he said. “It’s going to create 50 permanent jobs and it created 120 construction jobs.”
Patchogue Mayor Paul Pontieri was also in attendance at the party, held in the center’s main floor restaurant and pub.
“[The Village Walk] makes us a better place,” he said. “We take care of young kids in our affordable housing…now we allow our residents who want to stay in our community, stay in our community.”
