Ward Melville’s Anthony Kay has had a busy summer.
The 2016 first-round draft pick for the New York Mets was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in a deal for Medford’s Marcus Stroman in July.
Since the trade, the Stony Brook native posted a 2.5 ERA with 38 strikes in 36 innings with Toronto’s Triple-A team, the Buffalo Bisons.
Now, the 24-year-old is set to make his big-league debut.
According to MLB.com, Kay, Toronto’s No. 4 pitching prospect, will be starting on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays. The game begins at 6:10 p.m.
“Once I got traded over, they told me to go out there and do my thing, and whatever happens, happens,” Kay told MLB.com. “[They] weren’t going to make too many adjustments … so I just went out there and did my thing.”
