Long Islanders were treated to a stunning sight Tuesday night as a Harvest Moon, along with a partial lunar eclipse, was visible.
Photographer Angela Sasso, from Lindenhurst, captured the beautiful lunar event around 8 p.m.
For those unfamiliar, a Harvest Moon refers to the full moon in September, named for its connection to autumn harvests, according to NASA.
A partial lunar eclipse occurs when the earth is positioned between the moon and the sun, but not perfectly aligned. As a result, only part of the moon moves into earth’s shadow, making a portion of the Moon appear dark, as if a bite has been taken out of it.
