Watch: Patchogue crooner Christian Guardino reaches Top 11 on ‘American Idol’

|

America has spoken — and Patchogue’s Christian Guardino remains in the conversation.

The Pat-Med High School graduate received enough fan votes Sunday night to advance to “American Idol’s” round of 11. Guardino, 22, wowed all three celebrity judges — and clearly, America — with his powerful version of Hozier’s “Take Me to Church.”

Judge Lionel Richie told him, “You were on fire for that! And what I loved most about it was that you held … the volume to the very end.”

Judge Luke Bryan also sang Guardino’s praises.

“Your voice is always just so solid. Great job — on a tough song,” he said.

Below is Guardino’s performance of “Take Me to Church.”

Guardino and the 10 other remaining contestants will again perform for America during the next “American Idol” episode on Monday at 8 p.m. on ABC.

Guardino explained that he chose to perform “Take Me to Church” because of how “soulful” the song is, and that it would help viewers resonate with the words he was singing.
