For the holiday season, the Village of Port Jefferson will be hosting two weekends of A Touch of Holiday Cheer.
This event is replacing the Charles Dickens Festival, which had to be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The outings happen on both Dec. 12 and Dec. 19, from 1-4 p.m.
For A Touch of Holiday Cheer, here are some of the activities that will be available on each date:
meet Santa
The Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce will be giving opportunities for families to snap photos of their children near Santa Claus on Main Street and Chandler Square.
There will be no direct contact with Jolly Old St. Nick, but the kiddos can stand in front of his sleigh. There’s a suggested donation of $5, and parents are being asked to bring their own camera, according to the chamber’s website.
make some cookies
Inside the Port Jeff Village Center, there will be cookie decoration stations.
The event is $15 per person and comes with two large sugar cookies with trimmings, icing and decorations. Click here for tickets.
horse and carriage rides
Like the Dickens Festival, festivalgoers will be transported back in time with horse and carriage rides throughout the downtown.
The rides are 15 minutes and can hold groups of up to seven people. (Update: All the time slots have been sold out.)
watch performances, virtually
The Greater Port Jefferson Arts Council, which produces the theatrics at the yearly Dickens Festival, is hard at work preparing skits for this new event.
Because the state shut down live performances, these skits will be shown to the public via YouTube and Vimeo. Check back for links.
