You don’t have to wait for warmer weather to shop local at the Long Beach Farmers Market — this winter, it’s heading indoors.
After strong demand from shoppers, the market is now being held inside at Bright Eye Beer Co. on Park Avenue every other Saturday through the end of February.
“There was a big demand for it on Saturdays,” board member Liz Nachman told Greater Long Island. “It’s good for the vendors, and it’s good for our customers.”
The first indoor market was held earlier this month and drew a strong turnout, prompting organizers to continue the pop-up series through the winter months.
If interest remains high, Nachman said additional dates could be added in March and April before the market returns outdoors for the season.
“The people who run Bright Eye have been so great,” Nachman said. “They’ll let us keep it going if the demand is there, and our first one was extremely successful.”
Each indoor market will feature about 16 rotating vendors offering items such as fresh greens, baked goods, pickles, and other specialty foods.
While the summer market typically hosts closer to 25 vendors, space limitations indoors require a smaller, rotating lineup.
“We can’t fit everyone inside,” Nachman said. “So we’ll change it up each time based on what vendors best fill the need.”
The next indoor markets are scheduled for January 31, followed by Feb.14 and Feb. 28.
Each market event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Photos by Andrew Rappaport.
