And just like that, the last Alive After Five is upon us this Thursday, Aug. 17, in Patchogue Village.
Below are some tips and trick for navigating AA5.
• The theme for this week is a Celebration of Cultural Diversity.
• The National Weather Service is forecasting clear, sunny skies and a high of 82.
• The festivals (four each summer) are held along Main Street from West Avenue to near Rider Avenue, as well as portions of South Ocean and Railroad avenues.
• Each festival runs from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., though live music and the serving of alcohol in the outdoor corrals will be cut off at 9 p.m.
• Arrive early and you will have no trouble parking. We’re talking like 4:30-5 p.m. Things start to get bogged down as you get closer to 6 p.m.
• If you can’t get to Alive After Five early, the shuttles are the best option to avoid traffic and parking issues. They run from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. from St. Joseph’s College and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church in North Patchogue.
• Organizers tell us Mt. Carmel is the move, with shorter lines and shorter travel time back and forth. The church property is located at 495 North Ocean Avenue.
• Local Burger Co. isn’t opening until fall on West Main Street but if you head over to their future location nearRailroad Avenue you can get a nice juicy preview.
• The family section has moved back to the Capital One Plaza on East Main Street, about a block east of Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts, after setting up on the west side of the village earlier this month.
• For parents of small children, after 6:30 p.m. it becomes increasingly hard to navigate strollers through the crowds along the center of Main Street especially. Try sticking closer to the family section.
• The brand-new Record Stop at 30 Railroad Avenue has been booking some great bands for Alive After Five. Consider heading off Main Street to check them out.
• If any one festival were to be called off because of rain, the make-up date is Aug. 24.
• Art-related activities happen near the District Court building at 150 West Main Street, and the Blue Point Stage is nearby, next to Bargain Bilge.
• Alive After Five’s official website is aliveafterfive.com.
• Berry Good Yogurt Café sells water for $1 per bottle. 😉
• Every corral for those drinking alcohol will have recycling bins for people to toss out their plastic Solo-style cups.
• Related to that, the Waste Warriors are celebrating their fourth Alive After Five by continuing to pull recyclable material from the recycle bins and carting them to the Congregational Church of Patchogue as a collection point.
From there, they are carted away for appropriate processing.
