A Bob’s Discount Furniture store is coming to Sayville Plaza in Bohemia, according to the realty company that manages the property.
Breslin Realty Development Corp. reports on its website that the furniture store will open in a storefront formerly occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond, which closed last year after the chain filed for bankruptcy.
The new Bob’s outlet will operate inside a 23,000-square foot space. It is expected to be one of 19 new stores that the retailer is set to open in 2024. Most of the openings are reportedly scheduled to open over Memorial Day or Labor Day weekends.
Greater Long Island reached out to Bob’s for more information on the forthcoming store, but a spokesperson said, “At this time, we cannot provide any details.”
The Manchester, Connecticut-based retailer has 170 outlets in 24 states, including Long Island locations in Nesconset, Riverhead, Farmingdale, Freeport, Carle Place and Lawrence.
The seemingly imminent arrival of Bob’s in the Sayville Plaza is yet another in a string of victories for the Bohemia shopping center in recent years. The Sunrise Highway plaza was beleaguered for years by a plethora of empty storefronts left behind by the departures of Kmart, Sports Authority, Modell’s, Borders Books Music & Cafe and other big businesses.

The plaza’s resurgence though has been fueled by the arrival of Aldi, Floor & Decor, JOANN Fabric and other reputable retailers. Only two spaces remain available for rent — a 19,000-square-foot space at the west end of the plaza and a 39,000-square-foot storefront that is often seasonably rented by Halloween- and Christmas-themed shops.
Additionally, Taco Bell and Chick-fil-A locations have been proposed for the shopping center.
