The family behind Muni’s Coffee Joint celebrates an opening in Lindenhurst

|

Muni’s Coffee Joint opened to fanfare this March in downtown Lindenhurst.

On Wednesday, the Lindenhurst family behind the North Wellwood Avenue coffeehouse got to celebrate with caffeine and music during a ribbon-cutting and grand opening party.

The event attracted village and town officials, as well as local business leaders.

Among them was Lindenhurst Chamber of Commerce president Jo Ann Boettcher.

“It’s just so fabulous,” she said of Muni’s. “It really fulfilled a little niche that we were missing in our community.”

Boettcher said that in just a few short months, she’s seen young moms there playing with their kids, plenty of teenagers, as well as seniors — all enjoying Muni’s teas and coffee drinks together.

“That’s what it’s all about, bringing them all together,” she said.

Thought it’s very much a family affair — Muni’s is named after a Portuguese-derived nickname for the owners’ kindergartener, Benjamin — it’s mostly Alice Bopp’s gig. She’s there always.

“It’s been very good, busy, steady,” she said of her first couple months.

She also spoke to the comments made by local leaders at Wednesday’s party.

“There was nothing but thanks for me for having this place,” she said. “And they enjoy it; that makes me so happy.”

Soon, that consistent summer warmth will be shining on the place.

“That’ll be fun, especially with the windows open,” she said.
