Danielle Catanzarite wins East Islip Idol Competition at the middle school

east-islip-idol-1East Islip eighth-grader Danielle Catanzarite has been crowned the winner of the 10th East Islip Idol Competition, the school district announced Wednesday.

Catanzarite sang Elle King’s Ex’s & Oh’s.Close to 100 students auditioned for the annual contest at East Islip Middle School, which is sponsored by the school’s Tri-M Honor Society.

A total of 26 students were chose to compete in front of a packed house.

All were treated like VIPs, including hair treatments courtesy of Cactus Hair Salon.

“This is an evening that I look forward to every year,” said Tri-M co-adviser Concetta Stevens. “To hear the talent and the cheers from their friends and family sitting in the audience, and to see the support the students give one another on the stage is such a beautiful thing.

“It brings the school and community together for a fun and exciting night.”

The first runner up was sixth-grader Kaelyn Gordon, who sang Pink’s “Glitter in the Air”; second runner was sixth-grader Kiera Brya, who sang Anna Kendrick’s “Cups”; and third runner was sixth-grader Jack Rice, who sang Twenty One Pilots’ “Stressed Out.”

Last year’s winner, Madison Latronica, closed the show with a performance of  “Gravity” from the Broadway musical “Wicked.”

The 26 contestants also included Giovanni Danesi, Megan Donlin, Christopher Dopfel, Kristina Fiumara, Victoria Gonzalez, Hailey LaMacchia, Jeilene Law, Kate McGaugh, Victoria Miller, Noelle Naccarato, Olivia Pause, Alanna Puzo, Kaitlyn Reilly, Kaitlyn Rice, Emily Rottkamp, Gianna Russo Sanchez, Lilly Scholl, Keira Tantillo, Kieran Tohill, Joelle Tomossone and Marissa Triolo.
