Patchogue has got the prescription for any post-Fourth of July blues you might be struggling with.
This Thursday, July 5, the first-ever Alive on the River festival series is launching on Patchogue River, where the organizers are looking to bring a Fort Lauderdale feel to Long Island.
Here’s what to know before you go:
• The inaugural summer series involves all the Patchogue River hot spots teaming up for some memorable summer nights. Like Alive After Five, the events will run from 5-9 p.m. on Thursdays. The river bashes will alternate from the Alive After Five dates.
• The Alive on the River dates are July 5, July 26, Aug. 9, and Aug. 23.
• No roadways will be closed for the events. Instead, each of the locations involved will be offering live music with no covers before 8 p.m., lots of vendors and food and drink specials.
• Those locations are Drift 82 and The Oar Steak & Seafood Grill on the east side of the river, Dublin Deck, Blue Point Brewery and Off Key Tikki on the west side, and Island View Marina, which is located at 61 Price Street, and lastly the Harbor Crab Co., which sort of straddles the river.
• Here’s the move for those looking to hit them all: the water taxi. Two 30-passenger ferries will be making stops on the hour — give or take a few minutes — at participating locations. It’ll be $5 per ride or $10 for a bracelet to get unlimited rides all day.
• Landlubbers and those prone to river sickness can also navigate the night in a free Qwik Ride kart. Just be sure to download the app to get them at your service. It’s asked that you tip drivers.
• The first-ever Patchogue Riverfront souvenir mug will also be available Thursday night and every night all summer. And it’s not just a keepsake. The 22-ouncer is $10 to purchase and will score you $7 refills of Blue Point at all five restaurants: Drift 82, Oar Steak & Seafood Grill, Harbor Crab Co., Dublin Deck and Off Key Tikki, all season long
It doesn’t matter where you buy your mug; they’re available at the five locations.
• Alive on the River is run by the Patchogue Riverfront Committee, a Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce-affiliated group that includes the restaurants, marinas and other businesses.
