New marketing firm ‘Ampersand’ launches within J. Signs in Patchogue

The unassuming “&” symbol – or ampersand – can pack a lot of meaning.

That’s according to the founders of a new advertising agency that just got started in Patchogue, in the second floor of the J Signs Inc. building.

The partners at Ampersand Marketing & Communications say their job is to make advertising fun — not a necessarily evil of doing business.

“Ampersand means working together,” said the company’s creative director, Dexter Dible. “We want to learn everything about our client’s business. We want to help them grow, and the only way we can do that is if we include them. So ampersand means inclusion; it means ‘and you.’”

“We’re doing this with you,” he said.

The company isn’t restricting itself to print or digital media services.

“If you need a video, we’ll shoot a video for you. We’re not going to say no,” said Morgan Marran, project manager. “Ampersand has already done audio and visual work for the popular Alive After Five event in Patchogue.”

Marran says the company has seen their following grow significantly within the past month on social media.

“We’re trying to showcase our creative personality on social media and we’re already starting to see local businesses follow us back,” she said.

The company’s president, Steve Marran, describes Ampersand as “opportunistic and open for business.”

The agency has partnered with Jerome Morello — owner of J Signs Inc. Little did Steve Marran know that Morello’s own staff would want to lend their hands to help Ampersand grow as well.

“I’ve been friends with Jerome (Morello) for a long time. Since kindergarten actually,” Steve Marran said. “Ampersand’s success could not have happened if I had opened an ad agency and tried to hire people on my own; I wouldn’t have found this unique mix of people. It just kind of happened.

“We all come from different disciplines and walks of life professionally, but each of our services are vital to making Ampersand work,” he continued.

The company has already designed and produced t-shirts, websites, podcasts, company logos and more.

“There is nothing like being given the permission to redesign a brand from scratch,” Steve Marran said. “That’s when you start seeing big results,” he said.
